Autumn Is Here, Whether It Knows It Or Not!



I've lived in Mesa for the last 27 years. That's 27 years of oven-temp summers and dreamy winters, but no iconic Fall colors and no leaf piles to rake up and jump in and, of course, no jackets needed on Thanksgiving Day.


I haven't always been an Mesa oven-summer lady. My childhoods were spend in Utah, Idaho, and California. I even experienced two idyllic Autumn seasons back East as a nanny. When the temperatures dropped and the oranges, reds, and browns bloomed on the trees it was magical. Sweaters, beanies, hot soup and warm bread replaced flipflops and shorts.


Here in the Valley, especially this year, despite our desperate desire to tuck the summer wardrobe away, we are forced to keep the shorts and sandals well into pumpkin season, but we do not have to roll over and ignore our primal need for a season change. We take control of our seasons with our food! Pumpkin Spice comes into the Valley with a vengeance. Flavored coffees, bagels, cupcakes, cookies and ROLLS. We, here at Rolled Out Bakery, conquer our seasonal deficit with our own version of pumpkin spice. With pumpkin in the dough, that distinct pumpkin spice flavor filling the roll in great flavorful swirls, and dreamy cream cheese frosting we force Autumn to come to the Valley with every rebellious bite! Who cares if we're pairing pumpkin spice with tank tops and flipflops?
